Cognitive behavioral therapy combines both cognitive and behavior of the individual. It checks out the goals of the patient and changes the behavior of the patient according to that goal. It is defined as that therapy in which the maladaptive behavior of the patient is changed by considering his or her goals.

Maladaptive behavior is a behavior which is interruptive in nature and interrupts in our daily life. Through this cognitive behavior therapy this maladaptive behavior is changed. The treatment policies change the negative behavior and emotions.

Process

Actually maladaptive behavior is disturbed mood or emotions which results from the inappropriate or irrational thinking called as automatic thoughts. Instead of reacting to that disturbed mood he get more involved in the negative emotional state and start thinking more negatively and start taking more drugs. The cognitive therapist attempt to make patient aware of his distorted thinking and try to make him out of this negative situation.

Now work of behavioral therapy starts he focuses on the behavior of the patient and try to change the negative behavior of the patient. The behavioral therapists are not interested to find out why patient is behaving so he just wants to change the behavior of the patient.

In this treatment the therapists have to find out both patient’s interests and his thoughts. On basis of that analysis are drawn and goal of patient is find out and according to that goal the behavior of the patient is changed actually modified which direct him towards his goal.
