Motivational incentives also known as contingency management is used as a tool enhance treatment and facilitate faster recovery. It is also used as a motivating factor for the patients to identify their goal.

It targets the specific part of the treatment plan and considered as a reward for the achievement. Social incentives are considered favorably than the tangible incentives like money, prize particularly from the senior level.

How it works

During the program each individual is observed for the drug abstinence. After a period of three months urinary and breath samples will be taken three to four times and thereafter once or twice.

For each sample that ends in negative, prizes will be allotted on the basis of a ‘lot’ method. Patients also receive prize bowls for regular and consecutive sessions ranging from 1 to 15 negative results.

Group/Counseling attendance

The attendance of the patients is evaluated by the number of the therapy sessions attended and the percentage of patients attending the sessions in the last three months period.

How prize or incentives allotted

Studies conducted on the cost efficiency and efficacy of incentives. The prize money will be allotted to the person by fishbowl method. To manage the cost the prizes are classified into big, average, small where the money also goes proportional to the prizes.

Costs

Costs vary between the time periods. Patients’ will have to pay to the time period specified. The prize money also varies according to the number of negative results.
